Biography:
Right-hander has cemented his place as one of game's elite pitchers
over last 2 seasons...2-time All-Star is arguably best pitcher in
majors over 2003-04 seasons, going 35-12 with 2.79 ERA (134er,
432.2ip) over 61 starts...during span, ranks among top ML starting
pitchers in wins (T2nd), ERA (2nd), winning pct. (3rd -.745),
strikeouts (1st - 459), avg. against (2nd - .201), complete games
(T4th - 9) and shutouts (1st - 6)...is 1st Giant pitcher to register
consecutive 200-strikeout seasons since Gaylord Perry in 1969-70,
having whiffed SF-record 251 in 2004 and 208 in 2003...after earning
All-Star accolades in 2003 and 2004, became 1st Giants starting
pitcher to go to consecutive Mid-Summer Classics since Rick Reuschel
in 1988-99...won National League ERA title in 2003 (2.34) and
finished 2nd in voting for Cy Young award, behind Dodgers' Eric
Gagne...Giants have posted 71-29 ledger (with tie) in his 101 starts
(.703) since his arrival July 30, 2001...has forged 55-21 personal
ledger as Giant with 3.03 ERA over 101 starts...in 243 career

starts of career without whitewash, has tossed 8 shutouts in his

is 29-14 in those contests (with tie Aug. 15, 2002 in ATL)...is 17-6

understand value of helping others, he donated tickets to City
Ministries International and personally met with hundreds of
children from organization...also met with, and provided tickets
for, kids and their families from Family House...filmed PSA to raise
awareness on issue of domestic violence...during 2002 season,
donated tickets to San Francisco Dream Center and personally met
with hundreds of children from organization...provided funding for,
and supported Giants Community Fund and Good Tidings Foundation, in
